NY Creates today announced its participation in the newly funded Manufacturable and Resilient superconducting Quantum Information Systems (MARQUIS) Quantum Leap Challenge Institute (QLCI), a major National Science Foundation initiative led by Princeton University that aims to overcome one of the most significant barriers to practical quantum computing. 

Through the five-year effort, the New York Center for Research, Economic Advancement, Technology, Engineering, and Science (NY Creates) will receive approximately $1.25 million in funding over five years to support research, technology scaling, and related workforce development activities critical to advancing quantum computing technologies. MARQUIS is one of NSF's Quantum Leap Challenge Institutes and is receiving $27.9 million in NSF funding over five years, according to the agency.

The U.S. National Science Foundation announced that Princeton University will lead the MARQUIS Quantum Leap Challenge Institute, a major effort to accelerate the development of quantum computing. The institute will devise techniques for fabricating hardware and develop education and workforce training programs that deepen U.S. leadership in quantum science and engineering. Bringing together experts from two dozen laboratories across nine research institutions in the areas of materials science, quantum devices, and semiconductor processing, the institute will focus on addressing the fundamental challenges around manufacturing core components for quantum processors.
