El Salvador Maintains Steady Accumulation
The latest purchase boosted the national stockpile to 7,762.37 BTC, worth $602.84 million at current prices. This makes it the country with the fifth-largest BTC reserves, according to bitcointreasuries.net.
El Salvador, under President Nayib Bukele, has bought one Bitcoin every day throughout 2026, despite the apex cryptocurrency’s underwhelming price action.
Notably, El Salvador scooped over 1,000 BTC—valued at $98 million—in a single day in November of last year, taking advantage of a significant dip in the asset’s price.
As of this writing, the country recorded an unrealized profit of $167.82 million on its BTC cache, according to DropsTab.
The ‘Bitcoin Country’ Marches on
El Salvador became the first nation to recognize Bitcoin as legal tender in 2021, positioning itself as a trailblazer in digital currency adoption.
The country has since stepped up efforts in integrating the asset into its education, public administration and economic infrastructure.
Bukele admitted in 2024 that Bitcoin adoption hadn’t delivered the strong results he had hoped for.
