Grayscale’s spot Zcash ETF will split its shares 3-for-1 in late September, cutting the fund’s per-share price while leaving each investor’s total holding value unchanged. The fund, which trades under the ticker ZCSH on NYSE Arca, disclosed the move in a September 18 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The announcement is a mechanical change to the fund’s share structure, not a shift in its investment objective or its underlying exposure to Zcash.

Split Mechanics and Key Dates

Shareholders of record at the market close on September 28 will receive two additional shares for every share they own, with the distribution payable after the market close on September 29. The shares are expected to begin trading on a post-split basis before the market opens on September 30, the effective date. The fund will keep trading on NYSE Arca under the same ZCSH symbol, and its CUSIP number will not change. Grayscale said the split is expected to decrease the per-share price with a proportionate increase in the number of shares outstanding.

What the Split Does and Why

A forward split lowers the per-share price by increasing the number of shares outstanding in proportion, so the move does not alter the total value of any position. Each post-split share will represent about one-third of the net asset value of a pre-split share; a holder of 10 shares priced at $300 each would end up with 30 shares at roughly $100 each. Grayscale framed the change as a way to make the fund more accessible to a wider range of investors, with a lower nominal share price that can make whole-share purchases easier for smaller investors. The fund’s total net assets are unaffected by the move.
