Hester Peirce, SEC’s Crypto-Friendly Commissioner, Set To Resign Oct. 2

U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission member Hester Peirce, nicknamed "Crypto Mom" by industry supporters, will leave the agency effective Oct. 2, according to CoinDesk.

Peirce posted her resignation letter on X on Sept. 25. She has served on the commission since January 2018.

Her exit lands as the SEC published new guidance on crypto assets the same day, an FAQ document meant to clarify how the agency defines tokens and how projects can market them, CoinDesk reported.

Years Pushing For Crypto Rules

Peirce spent years urging the SEC to write clear rules for digital assets, including under Republican Chairman Jay Clayton and Democratic Chairman Gary Gensler, both of whom favored aggressive enforcement against crypto firms instead of new regulations, according to CoinDesk.

She got the chance to shape policy once President Donald Trump took office. She was named to lead the SEC's Crypto Task Force before Chairman Paul Atkins was even sworn in.

Under that task force, Peirce helped build a framework classifying different types of crypto assets and which regulator oversees each one, finance.biggo.com reported.

She also worked on a formal rule proposal called Regulation Crypto Assets, aimed at letting crypto assets be offered without triggering full securities rules.
