HONG KONG -- Hong Kong-founded cryptocurrency exchange CoinEx on Tuesday said it will begin to wind down its operations and services, as thinning trading volume and more onerous regulatory requirements strain digital asset exchanges.

Why this matters

The shutdown could require CoinEx customers to move assets and trading activity to other platforms as its services are wound down. It also signals that weak trading volumes and tighter regulatory requirements may be increasing operational pressure on digital-asset exchanges.
