As the market for real-world asset (RWA) tokenization expands, an ecosystem is emerging that now goes beyond stocks and bonds, extending even to the tokenization of Pokémon cards. The increased payment convenience using stablecoins is turning Pokémon cards into highly liquid digital assets.

According to an analysis released by NH Investment & Securities on September 5, there are now attempts to tokenize Pokémon cards, which have become a popular investment asset. Backed by the purchasing power of Millennials & Gen Z, Pokémon cards have evolved from being simple toys to valuable investment vehicles. Rare cards in English and Japanese versions can sometimes be worth tens of millions of KRW.

Platforms providing Pokémon card tokenization include CollectorCrypt, Courtyard, and Phygitals. Their business model centers on selling random packs made up of tokenized Pokémon cards. Buyers of these random packs receive the cards as non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which can then be resold in NFT marketplaces or submitted for a buyback on the platform at a price discounted compared to the market value.
