Police warn residents about cryptocurrency scam at a Brazoria County gas station
RICHWOOD, Texas – The Richwood police department is warning residents about a cryptocurrency machine in a gas station on North Brazosport Boulevard.
They say scammers reportedly told victims to deposit cash into the machine at a Shell station and then send them a digital wallet address.
Officials say legitimate fines, arrest warrants and court payments are never handled this way. Once cash is deposited into a cryptocurrency machine, it is typically unrecoverable.
Anyone who receives such a demand should hang up, delete the message and avoid depositing money.
