Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Paul Atkins told Fox Business that he expects the CLARITY Act will be approved in the Senate.
The last update indicated that the Senate would hold a vote on September 15th. While industry insiders and Congressional supporters had hope the bill will get a floor vote in August before its summer recess the legislation was pushed back due to last minute horse trading and negotiations. While there is broad support in the Senate from the Republicans, the bill needs to get to 60 votes to avoid a possible filibuster from crypto opponents.
Via X, Chairman Atkins said their goal was aligned with the White House to make the US the crypto capital of the world.
The SEC has already proposed Regulation Crypto Assets, which Atkins described as their “most historic step” and said it was aligned with the CLARITY Act legislation.
“We are going out with this proposal so we can accept comments and be ready to march forward,” said Atkins.
