Strategy raises $2.01B in stock sale to fund bitcoin strategy

What's the deal? Strategy (MSTR:NASDAQ) raised roughly $2.01 billion in net proceeds by selling 18,261,118 shares of its Class A common stock through its at-the-market (ATM) offering program. The sale ran between August 17 and August 23, according to an SEC filing.

Why now? The company tapped its ATM program, which lets it sell shares into the open market at prevailing prices over a window. That structure gave Strategy flexibility to raise capital steadily rather than in a single block.

The scale: The $2.01 billion raise ranks in the 99th percentile of all post-IPO equity rounds in US fintech, based on a sample of 651 deals. That places it among the largest such raises on record.

The signal: Strategy has built its playbook around raising equity to accumulate bitcoin, and this round continues that pattern at scale. Recurring, market-sized capital raises signal how far the company has committed to funding its treasury strategy through public markets.
