Cryptocurrencies haven’t only been used to invest or make digital payments, but they’ve also made some very interesting purchases possible. Over the years, some people have used their digital assets to acquire goods that nobody imagined would be bought with these assets… and hardly with any assets.

In this list, we’ll review some of the rarest transactions made with cryptocurrencies, from private islands to custom candies, experiences outside this world, and items linked to digital history. These examples show how far the use of cryptos has come, reaching the most diverse markets.

Private Islands

For enthusiasts of the real estate world, there are several options to buy or rent large properties using digital assets. In places such as the Anambas archipelago, in Indonesia, companies like Kepri Estates offer the possibility of accessing private islands. For prices starting at $500k and ascending to millions, if you have them. Meanwhile, the real estate platform Propy allows people to buy properties supported by decentralized technology and payments with cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH). They even have a loan program with crypto as collateral.

The available offers range from land and private islands to luxury villas. Such is the case of One Bequia, in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, where they sell smart villas starting at $950,000. Payments in BTC are accepted not only for the properties, but for everything around them —from groceries to massage services. Beyond that part of the world, in the Marshall Islands, we also have the Beran Island Resort. Its management team allows people to rent a private island by paying with one BTC.
