The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is holding an open meeting on Friday to consider proposing new rules for a tailored offering regime covering crypto investment contracts. This will push discussions forward on Paul Atkins’ vision for Reg Crypto, or Regulation Crypto Assets.
US SEC Open Meeting to Consider New Crypto Investment Rules
The US SEC has scheduled an open meeting to discuss whether to issue a release proposing new rules to establish a tailored offering regime for crypto investment contracts, according to the SEC’s meetings calendar.
This is aligned with Chair Paul Atkins’ Regulation Crypto Assets or safe harbor proposal that includes crypto startups’ registration exemption, fundraising exemption, and investment contract exemption.
This meeting will begin at 10:00 AM ET and is open to the public, with visitors subjected to security checks. Also, the meeting will be open to the public via webcast on the Commission’s website at the scheduled time.
The meeting is scheduled by the SEC Division of Corporation Finance. The staff members mentioned to attend the meeting are Jim Moloney, Sebastian Gomez Abero, Valian Afshar, Patrick Faller, John Fieldsend, and Irene Paik.
If advanced, it could provide a new regulatory framework for certain crypto asset issuances that differs from traditional securities offerings. The SEC will further push for tokenization and other proposed crypto regulations.
Notably, the SEC included three proposed crypto rule changes in its regulatory agenda for this year. These focus on crypto asset regulatory framework, crypto broker-dealers, and crypto structure amendments
