Prominent Silicon Valley angel investor Jason Calacanis has dismissed the entire meme coin category as a "giant scam," bluntly ruling out any personal involvement in such projects while warning his followers that he never sends private trading instructions. The remarks land at a moment when the broader crypto market is closing out one of its strongest third quarters on record, underscoring the widening gap between speculative token trading and the performance of major assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Calacanis, who built his reputation through early bets on Uber and Robinhood and co-hosts the widely followed All-In Podcast, made the comments in a social media post. He said he has no connection to meme coins and no intention of joining any project built around them. The post also carried a direct warning: he would never privately instruct anyone to buy, sell, or trade an asset on his behalf.

The warning addressed two related concerns -- his name becoming associated with a token, and someone presenting a trading message as his advice. By stating his position publicly, Calacanis gave followers a way to judge any private investment pitch attributed to him.

Meme coins are tokens typically created without underlying technology, product, or revenue model. Their value tends to hinge almost entirely on social media attention, celebrity endorsements, or coordinated online promotion. Dogecoin and Shiba Inu popularized the category, but thousands of imitators have since flooded the market with far less staying power.
