Webinar | Post-Quantum on Deadline: What EO 14412 Means for the Public Sector

Presented by Palo Alto Networks     60 mins

Executive Order 14412, "Securing the Nation Against Advanced Cryptographic Attacks," signed June 22, 2026, moves post-quantum cryptography from a long-term research question to a compliance timeline. Federal agencies must transition high-value assets and high-impact systems to NIST-approved post-quantum algorithms for key establishment by the end of 2030 and for digital signatures by the end of 2031.

The order puts OMB and the national cyber director in charge of a national migration program and directs NIST to provide ongoing technical guidance and speed up cryptographic module validations. Sector risk management agencies and DHS are tasked with helping critical infrastructure owners and operators build their own migration plans, and contractors should expect these requirements to follow into procurement.

Meeting those dates is not an algorithm swap. Agencies need to find where cryptography actually lives across their environments, rank exposure by mission impact and data shelf life, then sequence changes without breaking interoperability or availability. Harvest now, decrypt later means sensitive records with a long shelf life are already at risk, which is why they move to the front of the line.
