Quick Read

  • XRP tracks Bitcoin on most days but has decoupled 3 times, each triggered by a court ruling, SEC change, or Senate vote.

  • Gary Gensler's 2024 resignation sent XRP up roughly 5x while Bitcoin gained only 40% over the same period.

  • Ripple partnerships rarely move XRP because banks use Ripple's payment network, not the XRP token itself, to process transactions.

  • Building a portfolio and living off one are two completely different skills, and almost nobody teaches the second. This problem is what The Definitive Guide to Retirement Income helps, and it is free today. Read more here. (Sponsor)

XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) often mirrors Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) movements. This pattern arises because the same money, market forces, and news generally influence both cryptocurrencies on most trading days. However, the XRP-Bitcoin correlation has broken down on three occasions in recent years, each triggered by a court ruling, an SEC change, or a Senate vote.

As of October 7, 2026, XRP is priced at $1.47, down 1.4% over the last 24 hours, while Bitcoin is trading at $84,232, down 1.3%. Over a longer term, XRP has fallen more sharply, now about 60% below its all-time high of $3.65. In contrast, Bitcoin is approximately 33% under its peak of $126,080. While both assets typically move together, they don't always change by the same amount.
