Anyone hoping to buy crypto at their Volksbank will not get far at most institutions. Of 14 cooperative banks whose websites we reached on August 23, 2026, four ran a publicly accessible page on crypto trading. Three of them advertise meinKrypto, the DZ Bank service that sits inside the VR Banking App. At the other ten institutions we found no such page under the same path.

That is the short answer. The longer one runs like this: the product exists, it is licensed under supervisory law, and each bank decides for itself when to switch it on. If no crypto section shows up in your VR Banking App, that is down to your institution rather than to the service.

Volksbank and Crypto: What meinKrypto Is and Who Stands Behind It

meinKrypto is the crypto trading platform of DZ Bank, the central institution of the German cooperative financial group. The individual Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken offer the product to their retail customers but do not operate it themselves. DZ Bank provides the platform, the local bank switches it on and settles through the existing account.

Briefly defined: A crypto-asset service provider under the EU's MiCA regulation is a company that commercially holds, exchanges or executes trading orders in crypto-assets and needs authorisation from the competent supervisor to do so. DZ Bank has obtained exactly that authorisation for meinKrypto from BaFin. Trade publications date the licence to the turn of the year 2025/2026; the launch in the VR Banking App followed in January 2026.
