21Shares will stake its own Bitcoin treasury in the inaugural institutional cohort of the Stacks Genesis Bond, a Bitcoin staking program on Stacks launching around September 10. As the largest crypto ETP issuer, 21Shares is committing corporate BTC holdings directly to the network rather than only offering an investment product tied to it.
Staking a treasury balance differs from listing an ETP. The firm's own Bitcoin sits in the Stacks proof-of-transfer mechanism, where locked BTC backing supports sBTC issuance and STX holders earn yield. That gives investors a concrete reference point for repricing STX as the settlement layer for institutional Bitcoin yield.
The program is new, so participation of other institutions in future cohorts remains to be seen.
