The Ethereum Foundation (CRYPTO: $ETH) has set itself the goal of making its blockchain and related infrastructure resistant to quantum computer attacks by 2029.

In a statement, the Foundation said it has until December 2029 to make Ethereum resistant to quantum computers and potential attacks on the processing of transactions, securing validators, and storing data.

The move comes as a growing number of analysts predict that powerful quantum computers will be able to break today's cryptography by 2030.

Quantum computers capable of breaking cryptography and stealing Ethereum and other digital assets is seen as one of the biggest threats to the sector.

The Ethereum Foundation said that it is taking the threat of quantum computers serious and has locked in 2029 as its goal to make the Ethereum blockchain network resistant to such attacks.

Software companies such as Google parent company Alphabet (NASDAQ: $GOOGL) and Microsoft (NASDAQ: $MSFT) have set similar targets to be quantum proof.
