Crypto Treasury Stocks Rally as Bitcoin Fund Jumps 5%: Strategy Surges 14%, Bitmine Climbs 12%

Bitcoin and Ethereum both jumped 5% today, and the stocks built on top of them moved at twice that speed. Here is what is driving the leverage stack and whether the momentum has anywhere left to go.

Crypto treasury stocks are outrunning a firmer tape at midday. The iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (NASDAQ:IBIT) is up 5% to $45.88, while the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEARCA:SPY) is up 1% to $772.97. The IBIT ETF is moving much faster than the S&P 500, which is the setup that puts leveraged cryptocurrency-treasury names in motion.

Strategy (NASDAQ:MSTR | MSTR Price Prediction) stock is up 14% to $140.33, with the largest corporate Bitcoin holder amplifying the move in its balance-sheet asset. Meanwhile, Bitmine Immersion Technologies (NYSE:BMNR) stock is climbing 12% to $25.84, tracking a firmer bid in Ethereum. Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) trades at $80,986.86, and Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) trades at $2,493.29; both are up 5% over the past 24 hours.

Treasury Trade Reasserts Itself

Neither company posted a headline of its own to justify a double-digit day. The session’s move is the treasury trade doing what it does when the assets on the balance sheet catch a bid. Strategy holds Bitcoin, Bitmine holds Ethereum, and each stock carries a layer of leverage on top of the coin it owns.
