Bitcoin confirms first quantum-safe transaction on mainnet without protocol changes

Pluang reported that Bitcoin has confirmed what it described as the first quantum-safe transaction on the network’s mainnet. The report said the transaction was completed without changes to Bitcoin’s protocol, meaning it was processed on the blockchain under the network’s existing rules.

Bitcoin mainnet is the live network where transactions are validated and recorded by participants running the Bitcoin protocol. A transaction confirmed there demonstrates that the approach used for it could operate within current consensus rules, rather than requiring a network-wide upgrade or change to node software.

The term quantum-safe generally refers to cryptographic techniques intended to remain secure against potential attacks using quantum computers.
