Saylor Challenges Bitcoin’s Founding-Era Doctrine

Bitcoin’s next phase should integrate the asset into modern financial and political institutions rather than isolate it within an ideologically pure economy, according to Strategy Inc. (Nasdaq: MSTR) Executive Chairman Michael Saylor. In a 14-section essay published Aug. 24, Saylor called for a Bitcoin Reformation built around economic inclusion and argued that early survival principles have hardened into restrictive doctrine.

The orthodoxy Saylor challenges treats Satoshi Nakamoto as an oracle, the white paper as a complete constitution, self-custody as the only authentic ownership model, and bitcoin-linked securities as illegitimate “paper bitcoin.” He contends that Bitcoin can preserve its fixed supply, open participation, and direct-ownership option while developing through banks, insurers, exchanges, corporations, and governments.

The manifesto instead casts Satoshi as founder rather than oracle, and the white paper as foundation rather than constitution. Saylor wrote:

“Bitcoin began as peer-to-peer electronic cash. It matured into digital gold. It is now becoming digital capital: the foundation for a new generation of credit, equity, money, and economic organization.”
