The Ethereum Foundation (CRYPTO: $ETH) has set itself the goal of making its blockchain and related infrastructure resistant to quantum computer attacks by 2029.

In a statement, the Foundation said it has until December 2029 to make Ethereum resistant to quantum computers and potential attacks on the processing of transactions, securing validators, and storing data.

The move comes as a growing number of analysts predict that powerful quantum computers will be able to break today's cryptography by 2030.

The upcoming Hegotá upgrade to the Ethereum blockchain, scheduled for 2027, will lay the foundation for making the network resistant to quantum attacks, said the Foundation.

Five hard forks of the Ethereum blockchain are planned after Hegotá, which works out to one every 7.2 months between 2027 and 2029.

ETH is trading at $2,505 U.S. on Sept. 9.

Ultra-cold quantum sensors cut X-ray uncertainty, improving nuclear material assessments

To monitor the amount and type of nuclear material at power plants and weapons facilities, scientists look for a special signal—the unique pattern of gamma rays emitted by specific radioactive elements. However, some of these elements also emit X-rays in the same energy range as the gamma-ray emissions, masking the signal and making nuclear stockpiles harder to assess.

Quantum Anxiety Is Becoming a Capital Allocation Story Across Bitcoin, Infrastructure and State Funding

The quantum-computing headline cycle is no longer just a science story for crypto markets; it is becoming a live narrative around security repricing, sovereign industrial policy and the next institutional infrastructure buildout. Smart money should treat this as a staggered transition rather than an imminent existential threat: near term, the winners are custody, migration tooling and compliant infrastructure, while the longer-term valuation question is which networks and service providers can adapt before regulation forces the issue.
