Why This Matters

Jane Street’s disclosed ETF positions underscore that major market-making firms are deploying substantial capital across spot Bitcoin and Ethereum funds, which could support liquidity and tighter trading spreads in those products. The holdings also signal deeper institutional integration of crypto exposure through regulated ETFs, though 13F filings do not reveal whether positions are directional investments or part of hedging and market-making activity.

Quantitative trading giant Jane Street revealed nearly $1 billion in Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) exchange-traded fund holdings in second quarter, according to its latest 13F filing released Friday.

Jane Street Expands Bitcoin Stake and How

The New York City-headquartered firm disclosed roughly $828.19 million invested in iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (NASDAQ: IBIT) as of June 30, with the remainder of $163.38 million spread across products including Grayscale Bitcoin Trust ETF (NYSE:GBTC) and Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (BATS:FBTC).

This stake is based on the respective ETFs’ closing market prices on June 30.

Jane Street also boosted its Strategy Inc. (NASDAQ:MSTR) stake substantially, up from 209,833 shares in the first quarter to 2.67 million shares, valued at approximately $232.76 million, in the second quarter.

Ethereum ETF Stake

Jane Street also revealed a sizeable stake in Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) ETFs, with over $90 million invested in the iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (NASDAQ:ETHA). The remainder of $22.03 million was spread across the Grayscale Ethereum Trust ETF (NYSE:ARCA) and Fidelity Ethereum Fund (BATH: FETH).

These disclosures come after Harvard University left its Bitcoin exchange-traded fund position unchanged in the second quarter, while buying no new stake in the spot Ethereum ETFs.

Price Action: At the time of writing, BTC was exchanging hands at $64,249.35, up 0.99% in the last 24 hours, according to data from Benzinga Pro.

Shares of IBIT fell 0.36% in after-hours trading after closing 2.22% higher at $36.42 during Monday’s regular trading session.

Benzinga’s Edge Stock Rankings indicate that the IBIT ETF is lagging in medium- and long-term price performance, with Momentum metrics pointing to weakness.
