El Reno Bitcoin Mining Op Has Ties To China

A bitcoin mining facility in El Reno, Oklahoma, which experienced a significant water leak in August, has been found to have ties to China.

A News 4 investigation revealed that the El Reno facility, along with another in Oklahoma City, is owned by the same individuals and linked to China through a complex network of shell companies.

The investigation also uncovered connections to other sites in four states and four additional countries.

The El Reno site, where a four-million-gallon water leak occurred, was never permitted for the city.

According to Yahoo News, the facility was built without proper permits and even constructed an unauthorized fire hydrant.

This differs from other data centers that are part of a statewide debate on regulations and permits.

El Reno officials have admitted to enforcement failures regarding the bitcoin mining facility.

The city acknowledged lapses in oversight and permitting processes, which allowed the facility to operate without the necessary approvals.
