Key Takeaways

  • Morgan Stanley’s MSBT topped $600M in assets five months after launch, with $538.37M in net inflows.
  • Near-zero redemptions suggest bank-led distribution is becoming a steadier source of bitcoin demand.
  • More major-bank ETF launches could deepen institutional bitcoin accumulation.

Bitcoin ETF Buyers Stick With Morgan Stanley

Morgan Stanley’s bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) is quietly building one of the cleanest accumulation records among newer U.S. crypto funds.

The Morgan Stanley Bitcoin Trust (MSBT) reached $634.83 million in net assets as of Sept. 14, according to Sosovalue. Cumulative net inflows stood at $538.37 million. The fund launched on the New York Stock Exchange on April 8, becoming the first spot bitcoin exchange-traded product offered by a major U.S. bank-affiliated asset manager.

That distinction matters. Bitcoin ETFs are no longer being distributed only by crypto-native firms and specialist asset managers. They are increasingly moving through the same institutions that already manage trillions of dollars for traditional investors.

Nearly No One Is Heading for the Exit

What stands out most is not simply the fund’s size, but the behavior of its investors. Since launch, MSBT has recorded only one day of outflows, on May 29, when $5.26 million left the product.
