Crypto: Solana Reaches 250 Milliseconds For its Blocks

Solana has once again tightened its internal clock on Friday, reducing its block time from 300 to 250 milliseconds. This 17% reduction is the third cut of its kind since August 2026. But be careful not to confuse speed with power because this change does not allow the network to process more crypto transactions. It simply processes them in shorter and more frequent slices.

For those who don’t know, a “slot” is the window given to a crypto validator to create and publish a block, which is a package of confirmed transactions. On Friday, this window changed from 300 to 250 milliseconds. As a result, blocks arrive 17% faster than before, but don’t get too excited because it’s not a capacity upgrade. Each shorter slot also carries less computation and less data, roughly proportional to the time cut.
